The AFP Joins the PhilSTAR Career Guide Job Fair at the Trinoma
Manila – The PhilSTAR Career Guide Job Fair on its fifth leg launched yet another successful job fair at the Trinoma Activity Center last September 19 and 20, 2016. Hundreds of job seekers attended the two-day event in cooperation with BPO Career Hub, URateIt, and the Career Guide section of the Philippine Star. The biggest names from the different industries and other government agencies set up booth to accommodate the applicants.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines joined the event as they aim to look for hundreds of patriotic citizens to fill in their troop requirements. According to Major Valdez, “Right now we are very actively promoting our recruitment program for the officer and enlisted.” Asked about the promise of a military life, she added: “It’s a very stable job, for those who are up for challenges, we provide training, and you get to tour the Philippines.” The AFP joined the job fair as a means to screen applicants who will then be sent to assigned camps for further evaluation.
U Rate It, a survey software solutions partnered with the event to provide an analysis of the event through a survey. According to Vivian Cherrington, “We are handling the feedback and opinions of the job seekers, we customized the survey exclusively for Career Guide.” Adrian Cherrington, CEO of Urateit explained, “By collecting the data from these people, they can inform them of future job fairs that will be happening. They can give improvement that the career guide can carry to the next job fair.” Job seekers can then expect a better and more efficient job fair this coming October 25 and 26 at the Robinson’s Galleria Activity Center.
During the opening of the event, PESO Manager Carlo Magno E. Abella encouraged the applicants to visit all the booths to improve their chances of landing a job and make them leave the venue with a smile on their faces. Ms. Arlyn Servañez, manager of the PhilSTAR Career Guide shared that the event’s success is attributed to the participation of the exhibitor and that they have intensified their campaign by utilizing sixteen promodisers to distribute flyers to mall goers and MRT commuters. Ms. Kris Angelica serenaded the event with her powerful renditions of famous contemporary songs.
On day two of the event, Mary Kay, a leading beauty consultant provided the job hunters with a free seminar on beauty tips and interview composure. Tickets to the movie Ms. Peregrin’s Home for Peculiar Children and other vouchers were given away to lucky attendees through games that were played during the course of the event.

The job fair posted different opportunities for everyone, from career shifters to entry level applicants. Franz Loraine Gullosa, was confident as she shared, “I came to this job fair looking for an opportunity to work abroad – for a bigger pay.” Jerwin Cariaga, an elementary teacher looking for a career change said, “I want to look for a job where I can be happy.” Conversely, from an employers point of view, the Career Guide job fair is a convenient way to acquire the talent they need. As per Ms. Jennelyn Rocamora of ICCT Colleges, “the applicants are coming here, we no longer need to look for them as they are the ones looking for us.”
