The PhilSTAR Job Fair | A One Stop Shop for Employers and Applicants
On its fourth installment for the year, another great opportunity for both job seekers and industry leaders to meet was again set on the stage of the Trinoma Activity grounds in Quezon City. Powered by BPO Career Hub, the best digital recruitment marketing firm, more than a thousand attended the event held last June 19 and 20, 2016.
In Partnership with Government Agencies
The job fair was well-supported by its partners – Ayala Malls, BPOCareerHub.com, Trinoma Mall, SSS, PESO, DOLE, The Philippine National Red Cross, and the local government of Quezon City. The Social Security System booth entertained queries from job seekers and provided assistance in procuring forms needed for employment. PESO has been an active member of the job fair contributing information dissemination. Applying for a job can be physically taxing but you need not worry, the Philippine Red Cross is on active standby.
A PESO representative pointed out the importance of job fairs as beneficial and constructive relating its effects on nation building. Events such as these create an opportunity where unemployment is addressed at a faster rate. There are some obstacles in applying for a job such as traffic, expenses, and effort. The avenue that this job fair provides easily addresses the mentioned concerns.
Day one of the event was graced with representatives from the partner industries. A ribbon cutting ceremony officially started the two-day job fair scheduled at 10am – 5pm. Viva talent, Ms. Kris Angelica serenaded the occasion with her heartfelt powerful renditions of modern songs.
Diversified Industries and Companies
A total of twenty-three companies participated and searched for talents from managerial positions to retail services personnel. It is interesting to note that more male applicants arrived during the job fair where hundreds were successfully endorsed for a final interview. “I came here from Laguna with my friends to look for better opportunities” – shared by one of the candidates. “Coming here was worth it, I went around and was able to get more information about the [available] jobs [and] I am already scheduled for a final interview by four companies” – a testimonial from another job seeker.
Job seekers were also treated to exciting prizes raffled during the two-day event. Gift certificates from Jollibee and Startrek and Ghostbusters movie passes were given away. Mary Kay, a regular of the job fair provided a different service. “We noticed that the applicants we provided with free make-up cannot consistently apply what we taught them. This time around, our approach is on guiding them, more like a hands-on tutorial.”
More companies from the BPO Industry set up a booth during the affair as they strive to fill in their much-needed vacancies. Asked about their observations, one recruiter from a reputable IT-BPM company remarked: “The challenge maybe is still the Filipino [trait] shyness, most of the time applicants get a little hesitant so we need to be more aggressive and approach them personally.” Roaming around the Trinoma Activity center are recruiters who would approach every entrant, giving them insights about the companies and requesting them to sign up. Long queues were witnessed from companies offering blue-collar jobs. There were those hired on the spot and most were deployed to their respective company’s office.
The turnout was a success with companies hitting their respective hire targets. “We will definitely be back and continue to participate in the future PhilSTAR Career Guide Job Fairs” – commented by an HR Supervisor who is a first-time attendee of the event.
